This was intended as a sequel to Hidden Emotions. It doesn’t quite gel.
And if I recall correctly, this never should have been a fanfic. This was, pure and simple, a very pissed off journal entry. Because I *do* recall bits of this particular trudge, although I can’t remember for the life of me why I was doing it. But for those “in the know,” the hotel in this fic most definitely was Hamilton Hell, which was in fact a HoJos before it became a dorm (and now is apartments).
Then again, I was in a very dark place at that time. A very, very dark place.
And I officially need to bite my tongue about the stupidity of songfic… because to my horror (and somehow I was in denial about this), I did, in fact, write one.
Goddess help me.

Well… in honor of the new permanent account, I’m dredging up the old stuff and putting over here, since it’s, well… permanent and all. And since I’ll be adding other fic, it just makes sense.
God, I was such a sappy college student. Seriously. And WTF is my addiction with internal monologues? *snort* Funny, though – the restaurant is still there. I ate there about six months ago – and remembered this fic. India Quality in Kenmore is still better, but Kashmir isn’t too bad.
Anyway, since this has never been tagged before…
Story: Hidden Emotions

Rating: PG-13ish… barely ish.
Disclaimer: Ten-Thirteen yadda yadda yadda – original under the cut.
Summary: sap, sap, sappidy sap sap.
Erich and I have been fairly busy with the wedding planning lately. Lots of stuff is getting settled, resolved, or at least band-aided for the time being. Our awesome maid of honor and best man have been very supportive (mostly to get me to stop losing my shit).
But I’m honestly feeling a bit better, a bit more in control. We’re now 90 days out. Ninety. I feel like it’s tomorrow. So I keep switching between “oh… I’m fine. Really. No probs.” and “ohmygodimsofarbehindshitineedtodothat.”
Melinda has been keeping me sane via email. I will owe her big time after all of this.
We’ve booked our photographer – a fantastic photojournalism-style photographer that Melinda found via Craiglist. Her prices are fantastic, and I seriously can’t wait to work with her, based on our phone chat a few nights ago.
Earlier this week we ordered our invites – so I guess this whole thing is official now.
We had a good laugh as we went through the styles and verses available. Some are truly frightening. Highlight comments included:
“Those hearts are too heartsey…” <--- that would be me, while viewing styles in horror
“Stop with the rhyming!” <-- Erich, re: verses
“IN THE SPIRIT OF OUR ANCESTORS!” <-- both of us, big booming voices, re: verses
We decided on something basic and traditional. And autumney.

I don’t think my mom has clued into the fact that we’re marrying on a Pagan Sabbat, by the way. But I’m having fun with the autumn stuff in the meantime, playing around with the double meaning.
But of course, wedding planning still doesn’t come without some stress. Now it’s with my other relatives – starting with my brother, who acknowledges to my mom that he received Erich’s email two months ago which asked him to be a groomsman, but he didn’t read it, and then gives my mom some b.s. “you know, it’s better if they call me…”
ARRRRRGGGGGH!
Yes, it’s my brother. Scott is being Scott. Scott is always being Scott. But seriously – TWO MONTHS. At least reply to the email that it’s better to contact you via phone, for cripes sake.
After all of this, you know what I’m doing for my honeymoon? Sleeping. That’s it. Erich will be relishing in the new release of Halo 3 and I’ll be sleeping. Wedding over, we’ll return to our lazy geekdom.
But before then, I have the Wedding Blitz Trip 2007 to work through this week, as my mom comes up for another whirlwind two days: my first dress fitting, flowers, and cakes. That’s the plan.
If we get that done this week, I’m so golden.
So… I’ve now been involved in fanfic circles for 13 years. Scary, isn’t it? And technically, I’ve been writing fanfic since about age 13 or so, when my friend Andi and I first attempted some frightening, very teenyboppy, and um… poorly lustfully written Troi/Riker fic.
That um… I may or may not still have in my possession.
Anyway…
So yeah. Fanfiction. Love it. Read lots of it. Have for years.
And I bring my general faves to date in this list, focusing on the two shows that I’ve focused on: X-Files and Doctor Who. This is, of course, by no means every fanfic I love. But these are the ones that I consider must-not-miss in the fanfic worlds. Some are disturbing, some are sexual, some are completely weird and out there.
Be warned. It’s crazy, unrelated fic. A reflection of me, actually.
So… first… X-Files.
One thing I learned early with X-Files fanfiction. The darker, angstier ones are the better ones. If you think about it, the X-Files is a very dark show. The main characters get battered to hell all the time. AND… I was reading this stuff at a very dark, angry part of my life. SO keep that in mind.
Sadly, many of my favorites are now lost in the ether. I’ll add them as I can find them, however.
Subterfuge by Xanthe.
Skinner/Mulder – NC17 BSDM/Angst
If you have never read anything by the amazing Xanthe, do so. Do so now. She writes a lot of slash, but she writes it damn well. This story in particular introduced me to slash-as-erotica. And as someone who knows many people in the BSDM scene (and skirts occasionally on the edges of it), she writes it with incredible sensitivity.
The Magician series by Jennifer Lyon and Suzanne Bickerstaffe
Mulder/Scully/Skinner – NC17 (lower rating available), fantasy/romance/adventure
Probably the most epic of the X-Files fics created. The Magician is absolutely massive. I spent the leftover fees for my printing access at Boston University every semester printing this sucker out – it’s double-sided and takes up a 3″ binder. No. Really. Silly in parts, completely out of character in others, but a lot of AU crazy fun.
It’s X-Files meets Dungeons & Dragons.
Dance Without Sleeping – Part One and Part 2 by Lydia Bower
Muder/Scully – MSR – NC17
A beautiful character piece revolving around Scully’s cancer. Poetic and frighteningly true to character.
Blinded by the White Light by Dasha K.
MSR – NC17 – Post-Colonization AU
Dasha writes incredibly rich worlds. This one’s jaw-dropping.
The Process of Becoming series by Kalleah
O-kay…
Just talked to my mom, who is making her plans for Massive Weekend Wedding Planning ’07. She’s coming up Thursday-Saturday.
BUT… she needs to head home relatively early Saturday because she has to work Sunday… and could not find kennelling for her doggie.
SO… The June 30th Who Finale Party is still on. Time will probably be around 5-ish, just to allow my mom the time to head home. She’s figuring Saturday will be a grab lunch & go sort of morning. But then again, realistically I won’t have the final episode much before then anyway, so that should work out well.
masquedbunny, if you need to go bridesmaid shopping and aren’t doing the aforementioned via email slacker thing, come on down whenever.
The house is always open for people who have to crash. AND… in theory, we may actually have more sleeping arrangements by then, if this weekend goes as planned.
More news as it comes…
