So… I’m now catching up on a weekend’s worth of flist reading… and come across (in great amusement) a posting on cross_stitch about the recent DT Cross Stitch pattern.

And the previous stitch pattern of Tennant (the goofy one that you see his dear mom hold up in the kitchen in the 2nd series video diaries) was mentioned in the post – including the magazine.

And I think… hey… I subscribed to that magazine until only a couple months ago (will be renewing once the wedding is over and I can justify the $80 per year overseas expense). I wonder which issue it’s in. So I google it. “Cross Stitch Crazy David Tennant.”

And I get an ebay listing: here.

And I say… hey, wait a minute. That cover looks familiar. In fact, I think I did the little reindeer pattern that is mentioned on the cover! And I pull out my magazine file off the bookshelf behind me and thumb through my magazines. And yep, I have that one. The one my little reindeer was in.

And there’s the google-eyed Tennant pattern. And, irony of ironies… here’s the text for the “Coming Next Month Secret Celebrity Stitch…”

Next month’s celebrity is a famous Australian who came onto the scene as everyone’s favourite girl-next-door. Her pop career has seen her become an international superstar. We can’t get her out of our heads!

Seriously. I am amused.

Not sure I’m quite geeky enough to stitch Googleyeyed!David.

But I’m highly amused I’ve had this thing this entire time and didn’t even know.

Ahem… *crawling back into my hole*

Contrary to popular belief, I’m not playing hooky today due to Harry Potter. Yesterday I was feeling off-kilter all day, very pissy in fact (and need to apologize to my co-workers on Monday because of it… because I really was right on that cusp of being out of line, IMHO).

Woke up this morning with very sharp stomach pains – and have been dealing with that off and on all morning. Mind you – I’ve been dealing with this off and on for the past two weeks or so. I’ll be fine for a couple days, and then have a stretch of three days of ow. I’m 99% sure it’s all stress related. But I’ve left a message with my doctor to see if I can schedule some sort of an appointment, preferably for the 3rd of August, when I’m already taking a half-day. It’s annoying, but I can deal with it until then one way or the other.

But goddess forbid that it’s not just a weird stomach bug, and something more chronic, like IBS. Because I’ve had a LOT of stomach/intestinal issues recently. A lot of them – averaging probably 10 days a month at least. And it needs to end.

Ahem… anyway, off that TMI bandwagon…

So I’m home. Parked for the most part in front of the A/C because it’s humid enough outside that MY hair has the slightest curl at the end of all of my wispies (no small feat, that.) Since we have a few of the guys coming over for this weekend’s Mega d20 Modern Gaming Insanity, I’m also using the time to get some of the basics done today… wash sheets & towels, do dishes, scrub the bathroom.

And I learned something the hard way this morning. Corelleware bowl + linoleum floor = shattered chaos. Seriously. I’ve NEVER seen something shatter into so many little pieces. I did a sweeping and vacuuming of the kitchen floor, but I imagine I’ll be finding teeny tiny pieces of the bowl for months. When he gets home, I may ask Erich to help me push the fridge aside just a bit because I think quite a few of the shards flew under there.

Beh.

Went out to dinner with whishastar last night at Faneuil Hall. Got soaked to the bone on the way over, but had a great time over dinner. She seems to be doing pretty well on her wedding planning. We chatted about Who, including my continuing “I feel so weird…” attitude regarding yesterday’s entry. We chatted about other fanwank stuff. We chatted Potter. We chatted legal rights over same-sex marriage. All in all, a good conversation about random things that just kept bouncing back and forth between topics.

I got home around 9:30 last night, and was just too worn out from my day and feeling grimy due to the rain to do much. Didn’t sleep well, though, due to the humidity.

And now Elly has climbed onto me to nurse on my shoulder because she needs comfort, so I guess I’m typing one handed for a while. She’s such a poor little kitten. :(

My mom called Erich last night – apparently the wedding invites are already showing up to people out of state. Scary. So I imagine I’ll start seeing RSVP envelopes show back up starting tomorrow. Maybe even today from some of the Providence crowd. I need to do some serious wedding info updating. I’ve neglected it for a while. So perhaps I’ll get that done today – get our registries up there, and additional directions and such.

We got the estimate from the florist, and while my eyes popped out – my mom apparently thought the price was quite reasonable (and came in at nearly half of what she was estimating… so she’s REALLY happy). Which is good. So that’s now a huge check off the list.

This thing seems to be coming together. I may actually be able to relax!

t-minus 8 weeks from this weekend…

Oh… almost (oh thank god… Elly left… although now I have a black shirt coated in white fur. bleh) forgot – I finished uploading the Series 2 Confidentials. They’re with the Series 2 episodes on the master upload list (for folks newer to my flist, just search my tags by the *wink* tag… easy to find). As soon as I finish this entry, I’ll paste those links in.

Which also reminds me – BBC America is apparently completely screwed up with their Graham Norton broadcast announcements. David Tennant wasn’t on last week as they had listed, and my cable service doesn’t have him listed for this week. Did I miss it somehow? Anyone in the Who fandom know? I mean, I’ve SEEN the episode, but the U.S. broadcast includes the Cooldown, too.

Anyway… I’ll stop. It’s after noon. I should eat.

Back later.

Erich’s had a nickname for me, said somewhat jokingly because of my blogging online for so long – “Measi, Queen of the Internets.” It generally gets an eyeroll from me, sometimes an amused snort, and we carry on.

And then this week has rolled around, and I feel a bit wigged.

It all started last week when a member on LiveJournal posted a truly atrocious opinion article about a particular subset of Doctor Who fandom, accusing them of ruining the show, being racists because they didn’t like a particular character, and just a lot of nonsense that basically is summed up with “they don’t agree with me, so they suck.” And I got sucked into the fire for a few brief hours, being careful not to troll but also to vent my anger. This type of insane drama, for those not in the internet fandom community, is generally known as wank. And if you’re familiar with that phrase and its British usage… you’re on the right track as far as the quality of these discussions.

Anyway – I did quickly come to my senses and backed off, shaking my head at the idiots who decide to determine fandom for everyone else, and started my week. But a lot of quiet, kind emails have followed me back to my little corner of LiveJournal, saying I was right to say what I did, in the manner that I did.

Was I? I’m not so sure. I stand by my words – I did mean what I say, how I said them. But I feel a bit dirty for jumping into any sort of fanwank.

And then my first completed fanfic in eight years was published for one of the fandom ficathons… that was early Monday morning. Oh, might I add (for the readers who aren’t reading this via LiveJournal, where it’s posted), I finally got over my fear of writing intimacy, and jumped in for this fic. And as nervous as I was to write it, it did feel good – liberating, even – to finally cross over that barrier. Definitely a sense of accomplishment, even if my ultra-introvert mind feels like I’m standing naked in the public square with a ton of onlookers. Writing sex scenes is… well, quite the exposure. I was taught, and generally have composed based on the “write what you know” philosphy.

That gets a bit personal when you’re dealing with sex. And so I’ve been terrified of it.

So early Monday, it gets posted. To my surprise, so far people are really liking it. Me – who always thinks my writing is complete utter shit. People are liking it. I’m getting added to favorite author lists on fanfic sites for it. I go to my friends’ list on LiveJournal this morning, and I’m seeing it rec’ed by a few people.

All a bit surreal for me.

Does it make me more confident as a writer? Oh hell no. The day I feel good as a writer is probably the day I need to stop. Insecurity is probably the driving force that makes me always try to improve.

Encouraging? Definitely. Once this wedding is over, I’m looking forward to more writing.

But in the meantime, I’ll switch between being flattered and wigged out over here in my corner. Because contrary to the “Measi, Queen of the Internets” persona, I’m fairly intimidated by the whole thing.

(but yes, thrilled at the same time)

Wedding Chucks, yo
Originally uploaded by measi.

The official wedding footwear has arrived – positively geeky, and just what I wanted. :)

The orange is a bit brighter than I expected, but it’s perfectly autumney against the red.

Now I just need to get the organza ribbon I’ll use as laces for the wedding day. Color suggestions, anyone?
