Random thoughts going through my head this morning…

Having a pinched sciatic nerve sucks ass. At some points, you feel great and feel like you’re making progress. And then others the pain is so damn blinding that you feel dizzy from it. Made for a very frustrating weekend. I wasn’t able to get any of the little house projects done I’d hoped to do for Memorial Day. All of them required standing or lifting or bending – all of the things that right now I need to keep to a minimum so this damned thing can heal. The good thing is that I am making some slow progress. I can walk a bit further before everything tenses up. I’m fine sitting down. And I’m no longer waking up when I change positions in bed. So that’s something, I suppose.

On the upside this weekend, I did get one boring but necessary craft project done.

About a year ago, I bought an unfinished copy of Fantasy Triptych from a fellow stitcher. She’d managed to get most of the outside borders done, plus about 1/2 of the leftmost panel completed before she gave up. I was quite happy when she offered to sell it to me for $50, with all threads included. (with the amount of thread on this one, that’s a HUGE bargain. Really).

I tried stitching on it with her organization system, but it drove me crazy… she used cardboard project cards, which are strips of cardboard with holes punched in them to loop and slipknot the threads you’re using (and then you write the color on the card with an arrow pointing to the appropriate hole). I don’t care for those types of organizers because the thread hangs free and gets tangled with other cards. Plus with all of my cats, loose hanging thread is just asking for problems. On small projects, I can deal. But this project literally has about 50 colors, sometimes double or triple skeins to a color.

So I decided to switch everything to my organization system – everything wound on bobbins, and then put in a plastic caddy. I’m very glad I did this – along the way, I found a few colors that were mislabeled. Thankfully I have a DMC master color foldout, so I was able to match them and label properly.

Now everything’s done and labeled. I wound up with enough bobbins to fill an entire large project caddy – about 85 in all. Lots of mind-numbing bobbin winding, but in the long run having stuff organized the way I’m most comfortable is completely worth it – it’ll speed up my stitching because I won’t be struggling to find everything.

Depending on what’s happening with my nerve this week, organizing the rest of my stitching projects may be one of my primary objectives. It’s something I can do while sitting on the couch. And hey, it does need to get done… so… no complaints.

In other news, the archive is now up and running thanks to some brilliant graphic work by ivydoor. I’m sure I’ll be doing little coding tweaks forever on it, but I’m thrilled it’s now running. At some point today, I’ll be harassing my service provider to get an update on my additional domain purchase. Once that’s settled and the site is moved to its permanent home, I’ll do the advertising post on who_daily and OG.

Two people defriended me after my small post about Steven Moffat last night. *sigh* The trickle commences, I suppose. I don’t intend to defriend them back because I do value their insight and opinions into the series. I’m sad that my difference of opinion is so incompatible, but not much I can do about it.

We went to the drive-in on Sunday evening for a double feature of Indiana Jones and Iron Man. Both screens were completely sold out – always great to see. The weather was quite nice, if a bit cold once the sun went down. The stars were shining brightly, and it’s still a bit early for bugs, so very comfortable. I wound up crashing out for the majority of Iron Man in the back of the car, though… meds and fatigue just caught up with me. I’d seen the movie during its opening weekend, though, so I’m not that troubled by it.

As far as Stitch, Bitch & Who stuff goes this weekend… if anyone’s coming down, it’ll have to be for Saturday to Sunday morning only. Our friend Kevin is getting married Sunday, and it’s his crazy weekend of events. Erich’s a groomsman, so there’s the rehearsal dinner on Friday night (which we’re both attending). The guys are then going out for the bachelor party on Saturday afternoon/evening. And then there’s the wedding. So yes, folks are welcome to come over on Saturday (as early as you’d like), but be aware we’ll have to shoo people out fairly early Sunday.
