I have a case of Monday groggies that are just maddening. Even an extra hour of sleep on the train this morning and a large coffee aren’t kicking it.

*sigh*

Hopefully my body will find a way to wake up today. I have a lot of things I’d ideally like to do.

If work continues to be quiet today, I’ll be doing some fic writing at my desk – it will at least make me look like I’m busy. The ficathon entry isn’t due until the 26th, but I’d really, REALLY like to have it done and out to beta sometime this week. We’ll see.

Once I get my fic commitments done, I may take a decent break from a lot of fandom stuff, with the exception of the modding work needed. *shrug*

I’m joining the Stitching Olympics over on cross_stitch. I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to use for it, though. Most likely I’ll be working in ivy_pep‘s sampler… because you know, it would be good to get her wedding sampler done sometime relatively soon, considering we’re coming up on three… *blush* Anyone want to join me for some crafty Olympics? :)

I finished reading Anything Goes this weekend. John Barrowman is a funny mofo. More than once I laughed out loud on the T last week – generally not appreciated by the commuting public. Seriously? Good on him for living life as he’s wanted to. Great stories. His family just sounds like an absolute hoot. I’d probably be scared to death by them. (and that’s a compliment, BTW)

Off to get a cuppa and then sit down with those six pages of Cyrillic writing from last week…

What would you do if there was a PETA protest outside your office building?

Would you

a) ignore them entirely
b) go downstairs to see what they want
c) go downstairs to laugh at how stupid they are
d) go buy a burger and sit on the benches nearby and observe while you eat
e) join them
f) other – see comments

Just curious, because I have no prior experience with this.

I seem to want to torture myself
Stupid nosy teenagers on the train – YOU MAKE ME WRITE IN CYRILLIC, YOU DO!!!!!
I seem to want to torture myself

This is what happens when I really, REALLY want to get some writing done, but I wind up at a six seat table on the train with five teenagers who keep looking at what I’m writing.

FINE. You want to be nosy? Go ahead and figure out what I’m writing, you loud-mouthed swearing pain in the ass.

Now I have six full notebook pages of this to translate for myself. *sigh* The kicker? It is, in fact, all in English. It’s all written phonetically in Cyrillic (or the closest I can come to it with quick thinking). Hooked on Cyrillic phonics worked for me.

This is about all that’s left of two years of Russian class in high school. I can pick up a few root words if I listen to something in Russian here and there, and I can still go through the basics of “Hello, how are you? I’m fine. My name is Melissa, etc.” But beyond that? No. But hey, at least it allows me to write without the added paranoia of having nosy high schoolers staring at my notebook.

(it’s also a very handy personal shorthand to have as an admin assistant, I’ll add. Particularly for stuff that’s a bit more confidential).

Could you imagine if I were actually wanting to work on a smut scene, though? (which this isn’t). Between writing it around teenagers on a train, and then having to go and SOUND MY OWN WORDS OUT later? Cripes, that could get embarrassing.

Oh yes… this could get amusing…

The tickets to England have finally been booked thanks to the house selling. Our dates are Oct. 13-24th.

Now to start finding places to stay. We’re thinking of mixing hostels and B&Bs… any recommendations?

Riverhouse Backpackers in Cardiff looks quite nice. As is saving money in London by hostelling it.

Places we’d ideally like to go this trip are Stratford (definite), Cardiff (definite), London, and Edinburgh.
