So over the past couple weeks, I’ve realized that I got myself into a bit of a stitchy pickle this year.  As I described this morning to my good stitchy friend Rachel, I am easily attracted to the potato-chip theory when it comes to round robin stitching – I can’t bite into just one.  Not that there’s anything wrong with multiple round robin stitching – and I absolutely adore it.  The big problem is that it leaves literally no stitching time for any of my other projects.  Aside from the folk egg, I haven’t worked on any of my pieces since Stitcher’s Hideaway in late February.  I truthfully don’t expect to be able to until the first robin wraps up this summer, either.

So I’ve decided that while I adore RR stitching (and honestly, I really do – I love the community it builds and the people I meet), I’m going to have to cut myself off cold turkey after the current group is done to intentionally focus on my own projects for a while.  I have a bunch of stuff in progress, and I have even more that I’d love to start – but I really can’t justify starting them when so much is lingering around.

As scary (and possibly insane?) as it is to start looking so far in the future, I’m looking at 2012 now.  Partially because the final RR will wrap up the first week of December, so it makes sense, and partially because the longer that I have to beat this idea into my head, hopefully the better it will stick.

Of course,  I need things to be playful and silly while I’m actually serious about keeping myself organized, so I shall deem 2012 the year of the WIP Apocalypse. Clearly the Mayans had no idea that the end of their calendar actually referred to my stitching!  And of course, I welcome other stitchers to join me in this WIP Apocalypse.  It’ll be a year-long SAL simply to celebrate progress on our pieces.  Whether you’re a one-at-a-time stitcher or a crazy rotationer like me (or heck, not even a stitcher – crocheters, knitters, etc.)- it’s all good.   For now I’m just taking feeler interest – I’ll do a formal signup announcement sometime in the fall, when it’s honestly reasonable to be planning for 2012.  :)

And I apologize for the huge burst of caffeine that probably partially inspired this post – I’ll come back to earth later, I promise!
