Hi Joanne – unfortunately being a SAHM isn’t an option due to current expenses and health insurance access. It’s not a matter of clothes (which I haven’t bought in over 3 years as it is) or going out to eat – it’s the mortgage, healthcare costs, standard food costs, and utilities/taxes, which Erich and I share. We are trying to figure out where we can cut costs, but it’s just not quite that easy. I will not get paid maternity leave (as is standard in the US), and if I quit my job, I cannot apply for unemployment.
Getting a new job is not that easy – and my state has the 2nd highest unemployment in the nation. Overnight shifts simply don’t pay what we need for our expenses.

I’m expecting that I can post on my blog for WIPocalypse check-ins. I don’t plan on running another giveaway at the end of it, though. It was supposed to be a fun, relaxed thing, and there are a lot of people who seem to get ticked off when they miss check-ins. I don’t want to deal with the negativity next year. It’ll just be a stitch-a-long for the heck fo it.

Good to hear everything’s progressing well and all the tests are ok. No bump at 17 weeks? Lucky you, hopefully it won’t be a 10pounder like my last one.
Don’t stress too much about money. If childcare is too expensive, be a SAHM for a year or too. Change career so Dad can look after baby (one friend of mine works full time three x 12 hour nightshifts so she can be there during the day). Remember, in 5 years time you can’t say “here’s the £100K I earned can I have my child’s babyhood back now”. It’s amazing how much you save not going to work too, all those “essential” things like tights, work clothes, whip-rounds for Birthday presents, takeout coffees, takeaway and ready meals because you’re too tired to cook!
When I had my first son my income was cut by 75%, I was a lone parent on benefits for four years and we managed, I don’t regret it at all!!
The big question is – will you have time to do the WIPocalypse next year?? LOL.
