Haven’t posted in a couple weeks even though I’ve been meaning to. Nothing’s wrong – I’m just busy with a bunch of little things now that the new year has started.

Another birthday has come and gone – I’m 35. Oddly, this one does feel different, although I’m not quite sure how to describe it.

Work’s fine. The pace has been uneven, but that’s to be expected in the new year. I’m still stressed about the things that normally stress me, but overall… work’s just fine.

I started on some fanfic early in the month, but I’ve been distracted by all of the other stuff going on in my life. Erich has some gaming dates with the guys in the next few weeks, though – so I may reserve some of my time to just tinker. No idea where it will lead. I’m not putting any expectations on myself other than to scribble some scenes and see if anything takes me anywhere. I’m debating posting draft scenes under a friends’ lock on LiveJournal for feedback… any thoughts?

I’ve been doing a decent amount of stitching, too. As part of “Guilt Free January” over on The Wagon, I’ve started two pieces so far this month: Legends of the Dragons and Astrology Sampler. I’ll post pics this weekend on them. I’ve debated starting one more piece for Guilt Free January to throw some variety into my rotations the rest of this year… I’m mulling over starting Spring Queen by Mirabilia or Witchy Washy by Raise the Roof. Not sure yet… but I probably will get something else underway in the next week or so.

I haven’t, to my surprise, been playing a lot of World of Warcraft. Erich tossed the Guild Leader tag on me earlier this month, and I need to start doing something to salvage the guild in some way. Not sure what yet – it will be a casual setup, but I need to get on the polls I took earlier this month.

That’s it for now – new work just came in, so I need to get offline.

Honesty, the b.s. from Globat’s moves to new servers just finally pushed me into fixing things.  I’ve wanted to go to WordPress for a while because of the flexibility, but had dreaded transferring my entries over.

Turns out, I didn’t need to worry – there was a very easy blogger to WP importer.  I do need to clean up my categories a bit, but that’s not as big of a deal to me.

So yay!  It’s fixed and running!  Now if I could just get the Zero Room back up again, I’ll feel on top of things website-wise.

Taking a half-day today from work, planning on getting laundry hung up then getting back into writing Wiggie’s fic.  Ever progressing… *sigh*

Posting both fics last night has made me feel a heck of a lot better today. They were big deadlines looming that I absolutely wanted to do on time, and I did… so yay! It’s a little weird – and daunting – to have your husband beta things. Particularly smut fic. I don’t know , it’s like there’s a weird line there – fanfic smut should not be shared across the marital relationship.

Meh, I’ll get over it. :) And he did just want I asked him – check to make sure my verb tense is okay, and if anything jars, give me a heads up so I can rework.

(He’s a much faster beta than I am, by the way. I realize now that I do, in fact, suck.)

Also got to the post office this morning – sent off a couple small packages, bought a crapload of stamps. My first batch of cards is going into the collection box over my lunch hour. :) I have a few family and friend cards left to write, but for the most part I’m in good shape to get everything in the mail with plenty of time, I think.

So it’s now down to getting some promised beta work done, start drafting my Support Stacie fic, and just getting some other cleaning projects done around the house.

Hard to believe it’s only a week until Yule and a few days extra until Christmas. Where the hell did this year go? And why is it December and feeling like early May? (Yes, I know you guys in the Midwest are icicles right now… ugh! Stay warm!)

Random question – I stopped posting my journal entries from the UK trip due to personal craziness, but I’m going to have some extra time again now that the chaos of the holidays are over. Is it something that’s now a “old news, move on” thing, or is there anyone who wants them posted?

The good thing for this weekend is that both of the pieces I need to post for ficathons by the 15th are written. Erich’s doing the beta for me (a bit weird, considering one is rather… smutty). A bit of a relief, although I get tired of being right to the wire like this. *sigh*

I know that both dameruth and misssara11 have written pieces for me this week – I hope to be sitting down to relax and read them tonight, once I know my obligations are all set. :) (an early thank you to both, since I’m always excited to read special fic!)

Christmas cards are finally done – I’m mailing them off tomorrow. aibhinn, I’m also mailing your RSC items tomorrow – two separate packages, FYI.

So this week, I’m going to focus on getting some beta work done for avoria, and start drafting my piece for wiggiemomsi for Support Stacie. And maybe… just maybe, I’ll get my office tidied up so I can start writing there for the winter. I need to put a lot of work into scrubbing it – I haven’t really been in there since August or so. I’d planned to do some work on it today, but my back’s very sore… I think I just slept wrong last night, but I admit I’m overly paranoid about it right now.

So I’m spending the downtime playing WoW. I levelled one of my lowbies to 30 and got her first mount (sooo much cheaper than when I got my mount for Tennetty!). I levelled Tennetty to 73, and she’s now halfway to 74. Cowtastrophe is about 1/4 away from 61. Slowly but surely.

The weather’s been odd this weekend. We were NOT among the millions affected by the ice storm, thankfully. Rhode Island just got a crapload of rain. A few of our friends did lose power, still out now on Sunday evening. Said friends were able to find safe places to stay, thankfully, since the temp dropped very low last night (mid teens). I guess tomorrow’s supposed to be quite warm again – somewhere around 60 degrees. No wonder I’m still feeling like I’m fighting off a bug. *sigh*

Looking forward to our office party on Tuesday – we’re going to the reopened Hard Rock Cafe, now that it’s moved to Faneuil Hall. And we’re having a Rock Band competition. Heh. Should be interesting. :) As long as I’m not forced to sing!

Dear fellow MBTA travelers who were trapped on the 7:35 Providence train:

I realize that when we get in an hour late due to yet another engine breakdown, I totally understand the attitude of “screw it, I’m already late” and you decide to take your dear sweet time.

HOWEVER… morning trains generally involve this glorious invention called coffee to get the body moving. And when the train has been forced to sit dead on the tracks for an hour, that coffee generally has had time to work through the human system, and the bladder goes into distress whilst waiting to get to a place guaranteed to have an accessible bathroom – which sadly is NOT Back Bay station, even though it’s the first stop past the breakdown. As you all know – there may or may not be a bathroom on the morning train. AND, even if there is one – it’s impossible to know which car it’s in, nor if you will even be able to access it due to people having to stand in the aisles because the train is so full.

So really – get off the phone, stop walking at the same speed the train-pushing-a-train crawled along the tracks for 40 minutes from Hyde Park, and MOVE YOUR ASS into the station, so the horde of women driven to madness due to needing to pee can get past you to go to the scary bathroom they’d otherwise never want to use. Short urethras and all that make for some desperation when you’ve thought about nothing but having to pee and how to prevent yourself from having an accident for over an hour.

Thank you.

(why no… um… I have no personal experience with this issue this morning… why do you ask?)

——

Writing update:

Draft for hearts_in_time – done. Although if I have time, I may further tinker with it. Needs beta work.

Draft for oh_she_knows – mostly done… although smut bunnies decided to make a housecall. So currently, the Doctor is having a glorious time kissing Rose. My posting window’s the 11-15th, so I’m in good shape there. Needs beta work.

Support Stacie auction – waiting my instructions from wiggiemomsi *waves since she’s now on my friends list). :) I’m plotting with wendymr regarding our joint win for dameruth. And I think I’ve decided what I’d like to request from clevermonikerr. Maybe, hopefully… *strokes chin thoughtfully*

And I have so many weird broken draft attempts for the first two that I just couldn’t get moving in the timeframe I had available. Hmm….

Overall, I do feel good right now. Scary – when do I ever feel good in regards to writing deadlines?

—–

It’s quite cold out there today, and the sea is the prettiest shade of bright blue right now. Not a cloud in the sky. Absolutely lovely.

—–

It’s clearly winter because I’m waking up with somewhere between 2-4 cats on the bed every morning.

—–

Apparently Erich managed to finally get Hoodsie to purr last night. Given that I have yet to hear this personally, I still disbelieve. But it’ll be a wonderful breakthrough if this cat purrs. We do get chuffs from him, and he does breathe very heavy at times when you pet him, so he’s been *close* to purring… but not quite.

We’ll see.

Traumatized cat with major abandonment issues may be headed for a big breakthrough sign of being domesticated again. :)

—–

OK… need to work now.

Any Sisters who know the date of 1st Degree, could you let me know? I’m figuring it’s fairly soon, unless they’re waiting until next term to kick off MC period.

On a similar note… I got a preliminary email regarding the 25th Anniversary event, but there weren’t any details about what’s going on at said event, and ticket prices go up immediately after the new year. *sigh* I’d hope we’d learn what’s going on before that price increase. Maybe it’s just me, but while yes, I do plan on going… I’d kind of like to know what the money’s going toward. Especially since there will be a 25% ticket price increase in January. I don’t mind a surprise during the event, but to keep it completely in the dark just doesn’t sit right with me.

Maybe it’s just me. *shrug*

My fanfic writing is worth $65, according to the winning bid for the Support Stacie auction, which was won by wiggiemomsi. I have to admit that I’m a bit intimidated by it all, but I’m excited to get started… and I hope she’s pleased by the result. Meanwhile I have dameruth and clevermonikerr under my control (*insert evil grin here*). No, seriously… I’ll be kind. :)

Okay… almost to work. More later.

Anyone available this week to beta? I have one draft complete, and one draft I intend to have completed tonight that will need a lookover. Deadline I’d need them back is December 10th. Neither will be more than 2,000 words. One’s Nine/Rose, the other is 10.5/Rose (and if I can keep it in control, will be leaning Adult.

Support Stacie Auction

The auction ends approximately 12 hours from now – so please go bid! There are three additional eBay auctions to help the cause. If a sibling or child asked for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for a Wii, PS3, or XBox, you can get a copy signed by the voice/face actor of the main character in the game… buy it AND have the money go to a good cause. :)

My fic is currently sitting at $65. I’m going to match the final auction amount. So go bid! Get together with other people and do a collective bid if you’d like. :)

Info for bidders

Where to place bids

Who is Stacie?

Holiday Cards

I definitely want to get mine out this weekend if at all possible, so if you would like a card, please go HERE. I’ve updated that post with usernames of everyone I have to date, between my own post and popping around to other peoples’ posts.

I seem to want to torture myself
Stupid nosy teenagers on the train – YOU MAKE ME WRITE IN CYRILLIC, YOU DO!!!!!
I seem to want to torture myself

This is what happens when I really, REALLY want to get some writing done, but I wind up at a six seat table on the train with five teenagers who keep looking at what I’m writing.

FINE. You want to be nosy? Go ahead and figure out what I’m writing, you loud-mouthed swearing pain in the ass.

Now I have six full notebook pages of this to translate for myself. *sigh* The kicker? It is, in fact, all in English. It’s all written phonetically in Cyrillic (or the closest I can come to it with quick thinking). Hooked on Cyrillic phonics worked for me.

This is about all that’s left of two years of Russian class in high school. I can pick up a few root words if I listen to something in Russian here and there, and I can still go through the basics of “Hello, how are you? I’m fine. My name is Melissa, etc.” But beyond that? No. But hey, at least it allows me to write without the added paranoia of having nosy high schoolers staring at my notebook.

(it’s also a very handy personal shorthand to have as an admin assistant, I’ll add. Particularly for stuff that’s a bit more confidential).

Could you imagine if I were actually wanting to work on a smut scene, though? (which this isn’t). Between writing it around teenagers on a train, and then having to go and SOUND MY OWN WORDS OUT later? Cripes, that could get embarrassing.

Oh yes… this could get amusing…

Proud of everyone who went to vote yesterday – I know we bitch about our votes not mattering, but they’d matter less if we didn’t go out to express opinions at all. I, by the way, have not yet had the opportunity to vote. Rhode Island was not part of Super Tuesday. So my shiny “I voted” sticker will be coming next month. They didn’t update my voter registration correctly when I renewed my driver’s license – it’s still under my maiden name. But I have my passport still under that name, so I’ll bring it in case I’m asked for ID. *shrug* Then I’ll change it for the formal elections in November.

Didn’t get fanfic writing done yesterday as I’d hoped. My brain is just tapped, I think. It’s frustrating, but I’m at the point where forcing it will make the situation worse. I need to relax, and eventually the words will come. I could try drunken writing again, I assume. :)

New Torchwood tonight. Woot.

Kara raid last night was… interesting. I was distracted all to hell, and stupidly pulled a couple mobs when I shouldn’t have, and my freeze/frost traps were all confused. *sigh* But we did okay. The Thursday raid group will have Aran through the end to clear, as we just stumbled on Aran last night. No idea why – past attempts hadn’t been bad. No other party wipes, though – which was good considering that we only had one priest to shackle for half of the night.

News continues to come in on my friend Rob. He’s better in some ways, confusing the hell out of the doctors in others. The docs brought him in for a biopsy yesterday. Meanwhile, he’s regaining some of the use of his lungs, and now is awake a bit more often. He’s irritated with the tubes, which actually is a very good sign.

Lots to think about. Lots to do.

I haven’t posted here on measi(dot)net in a while – it honestly has been slipping my mind. I don’t know. I think I just want to keep all of the fandom insanity separate from my blog over here, but it seems that my life is just wrapped in fandom these days… so, eh. I probably just should let it bleed over and give up, eh?

In any case, it’s been insane since the beginning of the year, and here’s my thirteen things that have been taking over my life since the New Year:
1) Birthday celebrations. I’m 33, had a fantastic birthday with friends over a Pats game and some delicious strawberry hookah smoking.

2) The Patriots. Sundays have been owned by football. Absolutely owned. And I’m loving it. The Superbowl party is in the works. :)

3) Being sick. I fell ill with a cold on New Year’s Eve, and still have the annoying cough that goes with it, despite otherwise feeling fine. It’s not a painful cough, mostly in the mornings and evenings, but the cold weather (and the hookah smoking on my birthday) didn’t help.

4) Fanfic writing. I’ve been finishing up pieces that were due around the holidays. Got one done and posted last week. Now I’m working on the other one, which I hope to have completed this month. A small idea just snowballed and, with some help from another writer, looks to be a much better, satisfying piece.

5) Work. I’ve been absolutely insane with work lately. Lots of little projects, lots of paperwork to get through because insurance policies have just renewed as of the first of the year, and lots of really random little things like redesigning the company letterhead (eep!)

6) Torchwood & Doctor Who – Torchwood Series 2 just started airing in the UK last week, and it starts on BBCA this Saturday, along with Doctor Who series 3. Both shows are must-see, IMHO. The second series of Torchwood is already MUCH better than the first. Much slicker, stronger plots, and much more sure of itself. And Series 3 Who? Absolutely wonderful. The first six episodes are a mixed bag, but the last seven are much-watch. Particularly Human Nature, Family of Blood, and Blink which should be on in March. You must watch Blink if you haven’t done so. It’s a brilliant piece of television, regardless of science fiction leanings. It’s up for a Nebula award, and undoubtedly will go up for a Hugo this year (the writer, Steven Moffat, has won for his Who outings the past two years).

7) Money issues. Erich and I have been… let’s say, stressed. Partially holidays related, partially increase in heating bills related, and partially issues that come up with his mom’s estate. I’m just really worried about financing our trip to England in October.

8) Emotional stuff. Erich’s worn down by his mom’s estate affairs. I’m worn down from being constantly on the run since, oh, last August. We’re both in dire need of a break. Thankfully we’re not snapping at each other, but both of us are just exhausted.

9) The weather. Unlike last year, where it was nearly 50 degrees for a good portion of January, it’s been quite cold with lingering snow. I think it’s contributing to some of the emotional exhaustion.

10) Attempting to get our lives back in order. Vet appointments are being caught up on, getting stuff cleaned around the house, finishing up the final few thank you notes from the wedding, etc. – we have a lot of little projects around the house that we desperately want to get done.

11) Cat issues. Along with the generic vet appointment, we’ve been dealing with some feline frustration. One of the cats was taking to peeing all over the house. We’ve added a couple additional cat boxes (one upstairs, one out in the sunroom), and that seems to have stopped most of it. We still have an idiot cat who is apparently going into a cat box and peeing, not realizing its ass is hanging out of the box when it goes, though. Haven’t caught the culprit, but somehow I think it’s one of our bigger three – Colley, Gus, or Hoodsie.

12) World of Warcraft. Attempting to have some me-time has resulted in a lot of hours playing WoW again, and doing all of the in-game related stuff I’ve wanted to do but couldn’t commit the time to while also planning the wedding. Meaningless to real life, of course, but still a little sense of accomplishment all the same.

13) I really don’t have a thirteen. Maybe commuting time? The MBTA continues to suck and get worse. This morning’s sightseeing excursion on the commuter rail took us ringing around the city through Dorchester because apparently there was something wrong on the mainline track. Never mind the fact that when we got to the junction where both lines meet up by South Station, there were three trains that came through the main line. AND, our train was forced to wait through three trains coming through (10 minutes, standing still), despite us being the ones that were running 20 minutes late into the station. *sigh*

Will February calm down? I hope so!

I swear Erich and I must be the only legally bound couple in New England who both have to work today. *sigh* There sure as hell weren’t a lot of people on the commute today – not only did I get a three-seat to myself on the train, but most of the backward-facing seats were completely empty.

This means, of course, that on the way home they’ll close off cars and cram us all onto one car, rather than let us enjoy our rides home with personal space. Mark my words, it’ll happen.

Watched the Pats game yesterday – very happy the Pats are in the Superbowl. L.T. just amuses me – I realize that he has tremendous talent. I realize he was injured. I can respect that he recongized that his lack of effective play due to injury made him decide to keep himself off the field. But for a guy who spouts his mouth off all the time, he certainly knows how to sulk, be anti-social and be unsupportive of his team, doesn’t he? Rivers? Huge props for playing with that knee. Huge.

Bummed a bit that the Packers aren’t going to the Superbowl – Favre vs. Brady would have been fantastic. But hey, Manning the younger will be great too – the Giants gave the Pats such a fantastic game at the end of the season. Should be a great match up. :)

Lots of random crap to do this week – exhaustion from work last week kinda took over this weekend. I worked on a few things, but nothing was completed other than my beta reading for rabid1st and some completely non-essential to life things on World of Warcraft (although I’m now keyed for Kara… yay!). So this week’s stuff-to-do includes:

1) The final drafting of my OSK pinch hit (thank you, principia_coh for the brainstorming ideas!!!)
2) Update the TBS website with the new initiated class
3) Finish the never-ending pile of laundry in the basement
4) Reclaim the kitchen
5) Give the bathroom a proper scrub
6) Reclaim the futon in the sunroom

- So… to my honest surprise, part two of Life in Passing went over well. It had been mostly finished on my computer for about a tenday, but some reviews that I received from part one had me reluctant to post – particularly since I’d struggled so much to write the damned thing. But I had to post it, because it was a gift piece.

When I was doing a final read-over yesterday, I felt something was missing, and added the scene with Jack walking through the storage room. I’m slightly amused that so many people really like THAT scene (considering it was written in about three minutes, ad-hoc, just before posting).

But I’m glad it’s posted. And I am quite happy with it.

- Now I just need to turn my eye onto my pinch hit piece for OSK, which also is mostly done. It needs a once-over. But before I do that, I’ll be doing the beta work for Rae (probably during my commute tonight) on Disheveled.

- Torchwood Series 2 begins tonight. Woot. Yes, I will have upload posts as soon as I can get them up. Since I’ll be in the middle of a train ride when the torrents start popping up, I’ve shown Erich how to start them. :) It’ll be interesting to see if they’re done by the time I get home. Doubt it, based on what I saw for VotD.

- Worked through the beginnings of two instances in WoW last night toward my Karazan key for a single quest. Did a couple daily quests and raised my rep up with a couple different groups to Honored. And then I went fishing for a while over in Tanaris. Picked up a crapload of mid-level stuff to sell in the AH, and raised my fishing skill up 13 points. I’m now at an even 300. Can’t complain – it was a very good, fruitful night of Warcraft.

- And that’s it. Off to work. More later.

- Even though I wasn’t able to due to my gear, it was so awesome to see my guild raiding last night in World of Warcraft again. And awesome to hear voices on Vent.

- Speaking of Vent – fellow WoW players. Anyone know how to get around the Vent 3.0.0 issue where two people in one household on a mutual router can’t log into Vent at the same time? Until recently, our guild used TeamSpeak, and this wasn’t a problem. But now, well… yeah. So unless we can figure this out, Erich and I can’t raid at the same time (unless we yell across the house)

- I have a rough draft plot for each of the two fics I have due in December for ficathons. :)

- I have a couple of quite good fics I’m doing beta work on for folks – both will be mailed back to their respective owners tomorrow evening.

- ivy_pep – mail is enroute to you. I sent it Priority Mail, so you should have it by tomorrow at the latest.

- The housework goal for the weekend got completed. Bathroom scrubbed. Kitchen scrubbed. Now we just have the living room and dining room to get into order for guests on Thursday. Not too bad.

- As much as I am enjoying the Pats trounce over just about everyone this season, it can be a little dull to watch. But at the same time, I realize that the Pats are doing something pretty historical right now in the football world. So well, yeah, I’ll stop and just enjoy it.

- The nan bread from Stop & Shop is quite sad. But then again, I’ve been spoiled with the real stuff, so… *shrug*

- I need a nap. Really, really tired. And the delicious pumpkin soup at Au Bon Pain did not help my brainpower today – it just made me want to snuggle somewhere with a cat.
