Garden Sampler finished!
I just finished this under an hour ago. This is one of three Garden Samplers from the Prairie Schooler (“Book #45″).
This piece was started by Erich’s mom at some point. I found it among her knitting supplies a couple years ago as we were sorting her belongings after she’d passed away in 2007. It’s not my normal style of stitching, but still – I liked it and thought it would be a fitting way to keep the crafting tradition alive between the generations – she and I never got the chance to do the mother/daughter in law crafting thing, as she passed away a few months before Erich and I married. There wasn’t much done on it – only the top row of leaves and the vine and first flower down on the right. Everything else I did, and the vast majority of that has been this year.
It’s been a surprisingly quick stitch, all things considering – there are only about a dozen backstitches in it and only full crosses, so it moved right along. It’s also a lot longer than I expected – it’s a good foot long and about 4-5 inches wide.
It’s signed in yellow with both of our initials: “DLK MKK 2010.” If I knew when she’d started it, I would have added the start date. All I know is that it’s sometime after 1994, because that’s the date of the pattern publishing.
It will be framed and hung in the house – I’m imagining somewhere in the family room or along the 2nd floor hallway that gets a lot of foot traffic.
