A Finish! Plenty by Hands on Design
As promised in my entry yesterday – here’s how my finish of Plenty by Hands on Design turned out.
The up-close stitchy finish looked like this, complete with a couple stray cat hairs because… it’s my house:
I decided to finish mine as a flat ornament using sturdy cardboard for my background. I each cardboard form with some mid-weight felt for padding, did a loose drawstring style running stitch around both pieces of fabric, and then pulled them tightly around the cardboard forms and felt, and then laced each piece of fabric to shape the edges. The cardboard forms were then glued together and put under a pile of books to dry flat overnight.
Yesterday morning I did the final finishing with store-bought cording that I purchased at Joann’s maybe three years ago during holiday season. The backing fabric I’ve had for many years – I purchased it at a small quilting store in Franklin, Massachusetts called Emma’s Quilt Cupboard.
I whip-stitched the cording with grey sewing thread to the edge of each form to tighten the edges and secure the cord, forming a loop for hanging. I tied a bit of the scrap green floss around the bottom of the loop just to give it a little more shape.
Not counting the dry time, the finishing took about 90 minutes and a few finger pokes with my needle. Super pleased with how it came out!
