September 2022 WIPocalypse Check-In

Hello everyone!

September has flown by way too fast! How the heck is it already the last week of this month?!?

The first day of autumn came in this past week with a huge line of thunderstorms, washing away the last bits of the summer heat and humidity. We’ve moved quickly now into crisp, cold nights and cool days. The air smells like autumn. I’m finding myself in that odd seasonal transition where I’m excited for my favorite season of the year, but also sad because I didn’t get to enjoy the summer as much as I’d hoped. This past summer had just been much too hot and humid to do anything. I plan on taking full advantage of autumn as a result.

October is the WIPocalypse’s final one month challenge of this year – pick a project and commit to stitching at least one stitch on it every day. I have a few projects that I either need or want to finish by the end of October, so while I’ll be participating… I may truly be putting in only 31 stitches through October. But I will be participating somehow through the month.

I hope you’ve been reaching some of your stitching goals for the year as we move into the final quarter! Have a lovely October, and I’ll see you Halloween weekend!

Best,
Melissa

Upcoming Event – One Month Challenge

October will be our final one month challenge of the year. Take one project and commit to putting a minimum of one stitch every day into it during the month of October. It’s a simple, fast way to get a little extra work on a project – and we know that one stitch tends to lead to others! The next one month focus won’t happen until March.

August 2022 WIPocalypse Check-In

Hello everyone!

It’s the final weekend of summer break here for students in Rhode Island. My son Max goes back to school tomorrow (4th grade!!), and we’ve been busy getting new uniforms, school supplies, and celebrating those Back To School events around town. And next weekend, of course, is the end of the U.S. summertime season, with Labor Day kicking off that “we’re going into autumn…” change.

I won’t lie, I’m so ready for it. This has been an exceptionally hot, humid summer – with so little rain that we’re in an extreme drought here. The trees are already giving up and starting to turn. I’m looking forward to cooler days where I can enjoy being outdoors again!

Autumn also brings a lot of stitchy fun to my life. The Big E fair approaches in mid-September. I’m submitting an entry for the first time since the pandemic, and can’t wait to get back to all of the chaos that a proper state/regional fair brings. I’m taking a finishing course in mid-September as well via Zoom over two weekends. And then in November, I’ll be going to a retreat in New Hampshire. Lots of fun times!

I hope that the transition to autumn/spring brings you some new energy to your stitching as well. Enjoy the month, and I’ll see you in September!

Best,
Melissa

July 2022 WIPocalypse Check-In

Hello everyone!

July has been a bit of a crazy month with travel, really hot weather, a ton of stitching (hooray), and my inability to keep track of time. I totally forgot it was the last day of July today. eek!

If you participated in the month-long focus, please let us know how you did! I decided not to do a focus this month after the intense work on Witches Wheel in June. Instead I participated in a game on Semi Sane Stitchers over on Facebook that was a variant of the game Uno, and bounced between four specific pieces as a spin was made each day to determine what I’d work on. I got a ton of progress done on those pieces this month, and was very happy with the result.

I have three pieces off to the framer at the moment. It’s always so satisfying to get things framed so I can put them on the wall. I still haven’t taken the plunge to do any framing myself, although I think I will learn for some of these smaller pieces I have in my finished projects roll. Custom framing is just so expensive – eek! The end results will be gorgeous, though.

Off to get my brain and planner prepped for August. This month went by too fast. Have a good month!

Best,
Melissa

June WIPocalypse Check-in

Hello everyone!

It’s a very warm, sunny day here in Rhode Island. Summer has definitely arrived! It’s the first weekend of summer break for my son, the first weekend in a while with no scheduled plans, and I’ve been enjoying puttering around the house.

I had planned to film a FlossTube this weekend, but the heat has it just a bit too uncomfortable to shut off the window air conditioner I have in my office… so I’ll have to wait until it cools down just a little bit. Probably tomorrow or Tuesday. I have a finish to share plus some nice progress on other pieces, and can’t wait to show them!

I’m a little late getting this post up, so keeping it short – have a wonderful July and happy Stitching!

Best,
Melissa

July Month Challenge

Like June, July will be a focus month challenge. Take a WIP and do a minimum of one stitch per day, every day, for a month. Get some serious work done on a WIP that needs love! As always, it’s an optional challenge and not required to participate in the WIPocalypse.

May 2022 WIPocalypse Check-In

Hello everyone!

I hope your stitching is going well! It’s a holiday weekend here – Memorial Day, to remember our military members who sacrificed their lives defending the United States. It’s of course, not really a “happy” holiday, but regardless, I hope that my fellow Americans are having a peaceful holiday weekend. And for those not in the US, I hope your weekend is lovely as well.

It’s a beautiful, sunny Sunday today with perfect weather. As I do most years, I spent this morning wandering the local plant nurseries purchasing my vegetable garden and flower plantings for the year. It’s going to be a back-to-basics year for me – a couple planters with flowers, my Earth Boxes for tomatoes, basil, lettuce, and cucumbers, and a new butterfly bush to plant in a spot that needs “something” in the yard. While many places plant earlier than this, I never feel comfortable planting much before Memorial Day due to the risk of frost. I’m looking forward to getting things together tomorrow morning before the summer heat arrives!

I’ve managed to do a great deal of stitching this month. I’m hoping to get a FlossTube together tomorrow with my progress for the month. My goal had been to stitch on 22 projects in 2022 for Stitch Maynia. As of this morning, I’m at 20 with two days to go!

I’m also planning for the WIPocalypse focus month challenge for June and July – my project for both months (as needed) will be Witches Wheel. I’ve begun beading it, and it’s my goal to submit Witches Wheel at our regional fair in early autumn.

June/July Months

In case you’re an early planner – June and July will be our next one-month challenges. Take a WIP and do a minimum of one stitch per day, every day, for a month. These two months are back to back intentionally – get some serious work done on a WIP that needs, love, create your own month, or just work one month as it works for you! As always, it’s an optional challenge and not required to participate in the WIPocalypse.
