January 2023 WIPocalypse Check-In

Hello everyone!

New Year’s Day was just last week, wasn’t it? This month went weirdly fast. I’d fallen into the rhythm of the last three years where months seemed to go both quickly and slowly at the same time – the Covid Time Paradox. But January went just… fast. Too fast, honestly.

I hope that you were able to embrace that strange phenomenon that is inspirational energy at the beginning of the new year and harness it for your stitching. It’s been a positive month on my end, and I’m in a good spot with progress – hoping that it continues as long as I can push it this year! I just try to remind myself that every stitch counts. Every single one. Even if I only manage a couple a day.

Challenge Heads Up – March One Month Challenge

March will be our first one month challenge of the year. If you are interested in participating, choose one of your WIPs and do a minimum of one stitch per day, every day, on it for the month of March. The theory is like potato chips – you likely won’t be able to do just one! It takes just a few minutes if you are having a super busy time, and it’s at least 31 extra stitches that you didn’t have in your piece at the beginning of the month. Remember… every stitch counts. Every single one. If you fall behind? No big deal – it’s not a ton of stitches to catch up! Just jump back in. If you can’t join us for March, there will be additional months in June, July, and October. Or of course – pick your own month that works for your schedule!

I’m off to hopefully have a productive early day of chores so I can be lazy and stitch all afternoon/evening during the football final games to determine the Super Bowl this year. Have a lovely February all, and I’ll see you next month!

Best,
Mel.

December 2022 WIPocalypse Check-In

Hello everyone!

It’s the last hours of 2022 – dark and foggy here in New England, but oddly warm for this time of year. Like most New Year’s Eves, my family is staying in and playing board games, watching movies, and just having a quiet hang-out. I enjoy these quiet ways to send out the old year, especially in the chaotic times we’ve had over the past three years.

I want to thank you for joining me on another year around the sun working on WIPs, and hope you’ll join me for 2023. I have bigger plans for the blog as a whole with a lot more stitching to share.

Happy New Year to everyone! Enjoy your new starts for New Year’s Day, or working on the WIPs that call to your heart.

Happy stitching,
Mel.

November WIPocalypse 2022 Check-in

Hello everyone!

I’m a little later today – sorry! We had a friend visiting for the holiday weekend, and after he headed home this morning, Erich, Max and I took care of hanging lights outside before some expected rain. With a couple tasks out of the way, we’re settling into our normal Sunday late afternoon routine, relaxing and prepping for the week ahead.

It’s been a busy month stitching-wise for me. I started the month at a retreat in New Hampshire (Stitch In at the Farm), kept busy with ornaments and the Steotch stitch-a-long all month, and now am trying to figure out what I can and can’t accomplish before the end of the year. I’ve sent off two smalls for exchanges. I have one more to do for an exchange plus something for my mom. I’ll post finishes once everyone has received so I don’t spoil the surprise.

2023 Information is posted at the top of my blog, and also linked below. All of the questions, dates, and events are included. I hope that you’ll continue to join us!

Until next month, I wish you peace and happiness in your personal celebrations during this busy holiday season.

Best,
Melissa

October WIPocalypse 2022

Hello everyone!

It’s a beautiful Sunday here in Rhode Island. We’re just past the peak colors of autumn officially, although my yard is still on the greener side due to the large volume of Norway Maples that don’t turn until November (we usually have a huge dump of leaves fall just before Thanksgiving). Our first true frost was last night, and my brain is settling into that cozy later autumn feeling. I’m definitely ready for the dark evenings with my stitching light, a quilt on my lap, and quiet stitching.

I’m hoping to get a new FlossTube recorded later today. Life has been super busy the last few weeks, and I have a batch of things to catch up on stitching-wise. (Of course… I could always just do entries here, too! Not sure why I don’t.)

Next month I’ll be posting the 2023 dates, questions, etc. If there are any suggestions you’d like to make for themed challenges, please let me know!

Until Thanksgiving weekend, have a lovely November. Happy stitching!

Best,
Melissa

September 2022 WIPocalypse Check-In

Hello everyone!

September has flown by way too fast! How the heck is it already the last week of this month?!?

The first day of autumn came in this past week with a huge line of thunderstorms, washing away the last bits of the summer heat and humidity. We’ve moved quickly now into crisp, cold nights and cool days. The air smells like autumn. I’m finding myself in that odd seasonal transition where I’m excited for my favorite season of the year, but also sad because I didn’t get to enjoy the summer as much as I’d hoped. This past summer had just been much too hot and humid to do anything. I plan on taking full advantage of autumn as a result.

October is the WIPocalypse’s final one month challenge of this year – pick a project and commit to stitching at least one stitch on it every day. I have a few projects that I either need or want to finish by the end of October, so while I’ll be participating… I may truly be putting in only 31 stitches through October. But I will be participating somehow through the month.

I hope you’ve been reaching some of your stitching goals for the year as we move into the final quarter! Have a lovely October, and I’ll see you Halloween weekend!

Best,
Melissa

Upcoming Event – One Month Challenge

October will be our final one month challenge of the year. Take one project and commit to putting a minimum of one stitch every day into it during the month of October. It’s a simple, fast way to get a little extra work on a project – and we know that one stitch tends to lead to others! The next one month focus won’t happen until March.
